The Horrible Histories series of books have been a massive world wide hit. These books have been enjoyed by millions of children in over 30 different countries. By concentrating on the unusual and interesting aspects of our history, the author Terry Deary together with illustrators Martin Brown and Philip Reeve have created a very succesful series of books that have managed to get children interested in history!

Getting kids into history

Don't end up like he did!

As discussed in our getting children interested in history article, the key to making any topic interesting to our kids is to pick out the fun parts. Once the seeds are sewn we are all naturally inspired to discover more for ourselves.

This is what Terry Deary has managed to do so succesfully in his seried of children’s history books. So much so that they are even an attractive read for parents, making it an ideal bed time story companion.

Selected Horrible History Books

Wales

We’re not trying to suggest there is anything horrible about Wales of course, but this is your chance to find out some what made the history of Wales horrible!

• How the Normans outwitted the Welsh with a lump of ham?
• Why Druids split humans in half?
• How an army of welsh mums fought off the French once and for all?

Wales Horrible Histories

World War II

The series covers more recent topical events too such as exploration of the secrets behind WW2.
· How to make a rude noise with a gas mask?
· What really happened in Dad’s Army?
· Why the blitzed Brits ate chicken-fruit, sinkers and nutty?
· Discover all the foul facts about the Blitzed Brits – all the gore and more!

The Blitz

History of America

Thanks to its rapid development, American History can be a fast moving and fascinationg topic. It might not go quite as far back as European History but there are plenty of horrid tales to tell!

· which president was so scared of electric switches, he slept with his light on?
· how to have a civil battle?
· why cowboys declared war on sheep?

Find out all the ghastly details on the grim Pilgrim Fathers, explore the truth abut the legendary Bill the Kid and Calamity Jane, and see if you could have survived out on the American Plains.
